On the main side (A), the myth of Peleus seizing Thetis unfolds in rich detail. Thetis, naked and surprised while bathing, attempts to wrap herself in a cloak. Peleus, in a cloak and a curious cap (possibly a kausia), grabs her shoulder and forearm, while a sea monster — one of her shapeshifting forms — bites his leg. Above them, Eros descends, seemingly crowning Peleus.

In the background:

  • Aphrodite, seated and astonished, gazes at the scene,
  • A woman (likely Peitho) in a Doric chiton,
  • Three Nereids, in various expressive poses: fleeing, kneeling, and running.

On the reverse (B), Dionysos, beardless and crowned with ivy, sits with a thyrsos, facing a maenad holding a tympanon. A satyr stands to the left, glancing towards the god. The application of gold on Eros’ wings, jewellery, and clothing creates a striking visual effect.
